Knabenschiessen - Shooting Fest cum Fun Fair

The Knabenschiessen aka Shooting Fest cum Fun Fair was held over 3 days - 13 to 15 Sep where youths aged 13 to 17 could participate in the shooting contest to win attractive prices like hi-fi sets, bicycles, LCD TVs, Tissot watches...too bad I'm over-age :( it's live firing leh...guess I only have to wait for the once a year Army Open House.

The winner of this this 1st prize is a 17-year old Janice Mike from Rapperswil Jona. What happens if the winner is a 13-year old fella?

We didn't expect the fest to be of such a scale. Some of the rides are 'monstrous' to me though it seemed mild for the youngsters. It was a very cold day, about 6 degree celcius. We were told that this festival always suffer from bad weather. Yet it still managed to draw the crowd.

Some pictures taken at the fair.

We find this old man very interesting. He offered his home made cheese out to passers-by to try from his very small shop. We find it surprisingly tasty and mild. It has no strong after taste and is slightly saltish.

Pastries from Appenzelland.
The texture is somewhat like the skin of the baked mooncake so we bought a small piece to eat since day happened to be the Mooncake Festival :)

You'll find pictures of us around the neighbourhood pretty often now as the date for our departure nears ;>
