Eglisau

Hehe, finally had time to upload these cos this place was explored just 2 days before my friend, Eunice, came. This was discovered by Uncle Tan who checked the map on nearby little towns within Zurich, called Bülach and Eglisau.

I was happily dozing off on the train (as usual) when Uncle Tan woke me up. With a slightly worried face, he said, "Don't think this train is going to Bülach or Eglisau." We were certain that we didn't take the wrong train.

Apparently, the route was split mid-way and I guess S5 travels 2 routes on different timings...so we ended up at the other train station, Niederweningen Dorf. A stop before the terminal. Well, it was a good 'discovery' thou :)

We got down and seeing greeneries and thought perhaps we might see some cows again :)

Ok, we got off at the wrong train station, so make the best use of it. Say 'corns'.....

It was a quiet little town with few people. Basically it's an agricultural area with vast green land of crops.

Yes, we see them from afar...and we got excited... ;p

Erm..horns? Ok, we didn't dare to stand too close just in case...

The noises made by the cows whilst they are grazing were quite loud and poor cows, always disturbed by uninvited flies buzzing all over them...fortunately they have a long tail to whack them.
The entire place looks like this with long stretches of roads. This is a good place for bikers with lots of signages for bikers and hikers.

A corn field! ...aka jah-gong :d

Compared to those you see in the movies, this plot of corn field isn't as big. But they sure grow very tall.

There's a bakery shop in this little town but we decided to give sandwiches a miss this time and go for a fuller meal.

We went to one of the restaurants (only 2 were visible) and having cravings for fries, we ordered swine flesh that comes with the fries and salad. It was a very filling lunch for the portion was big. The meat tasted a little porky thou. Somehow it seems that the Swiss don't usually marinate their meat. Maybe the like their natural taste ;p

The fries are Gut! I've never eaten so much fries in my life...cos I find them very unhealthy and oily...perhaps the oil or the potatoes they use here makes it yummy and look less sinful for they didn't feel or look oily at all.

Time for a walk to aid digestion :)

Black berries!
I didn't know that they will be red before turning into black when they are ripe. So cute to see the 2 colours together :)

Raspberries.

What a huge pumpkin!!!

These are actually tomatoes. They have a variety of tomatoes here. Some juicy, some sweet, some gives soups a full body taste. Besides the different shapes and sizes, they have different colours too.

We saw some children playing "jia jia jiu" among themselves.
SG kids would be either stuck to their pc games or busy with their tuition classes.

I remember some parents told me they felt guilty for not being able to send them for enrichment classes. They felt they seem to have deprived of an opportunity to learn. Well, I thought the guilt should be greater to deprive them of their playtime when they are afterall, still children.

A peaceful and quiet town.

This house sure is a big one :)

The owner of the restaurant told us there's a Mammut Museum nearby but unfortunately, it is not open on Sat and will be open on a Sunday instead. Hmm...maybe Saturdays all the villagers go to town and other places and only will be home on Sundays?

Anyway, we saved CHF 20 cos we could view the entire museum from the outside ;p

This is the skeleton of a baby mammut.

Apparently from what I understand, they have found the mammut's remains when there was an excavations done here.

By the way, mummut is what we call 'mammoth'. Remember the cartoon "Ice Age"?

This trip seems like a mini fruit orchard trip for us. There are plenty of fruit gardens around. And we were so guai that we didn't even pluck any of the fruits to eat...actually not even in our thoughts until our neighbour said we should have tried...aiya... hehe ;p

Next Stop: Eglisau

We decided to give Bülach town a miss since it was another small town and more city-like. So we moved on to Eglisau where we could see a lake.

This stretch of path lined with huge trees seems like a link between fairy-land and reality.

Uncle Tan, the farmer hehe ;p

A couple of minutes walk, we've reached the Rhine where the water from Rhinefall flows here.

It was a beautiful stretch...somehow reminds me a little of Bintan's mangrove tour.

The majestic bridge for the trains.

Uncle Tan's colleague mentioned about this palm tree which can be only found here for this place is sort of well-protected from the harsh weather partly because of the rhine that regulates the temperature. This place is slightly warmer with a higher humidity, hence, palm trees are able to grow here.

When there's a lake, there'll be the swans and ducks :) Oh speaking of which, the swans will stay here throughout the winter while the ducks will fly to the warmer places. I better feed them soon for the last few times...

There's a place for people for to swim here and comes with shower facilities. This definitely is more exclusive than those you find in Zurich where you see swarms of people.

I guess the water was pretty cold for we could hear screams as the girls went in one by one into the water hehe ;p
