Prelude to Zurich's Spring Festival - Children's Parade

As most of the shops do not open on Sundays, we went out to the main train station for grocery shopping. Yes, grocery shopping is almost an everyday affair for us here now given that our fridge is so small and sometimes we hope we had a balcony so that we can leave some of our foodstuff outside in order to free up some space in the fridge.

As we arrived, we were wondering why there are so many people around given that the shops are closed, except for a few cafes.

At the main train station

Here's the world's most expensive street - Bahnofstrasse

Sunshine at last!

I decided to show Uncle Tan where the Old Town which he haven't been there since he arrived Zurich.
As we walked, we heard a band playing. So we followed the music and hey, a mini carnival!

A sausage in one hand & mustard sauce on the other

The smell of BBQ sausage is inviting, so we bought one to try. 7 Fr for a Schweinefleish (pork) sausage which comes with a bread (we later realised that there are other foodstalls selling a frank or 2 cheaper. Hmm...I thought their prices here are more or less similar). But fortunately we did as we found out from them that there's a children's parade later at 3pm by the river.

I don't really take mustard but over here, it really tastes good with sausages. Probably the food here is too salty, so the mustard sort of covered the saltiness of the sausage. But I guess I'm not really a meat person, even though we shared the sausage and bread, I felt a bit jer lark after a while...

Posing for a journalistic picture...nay it's after his sausage lunch...;p

And now for his choc dessert

Many are out to enjoy the sun and waiting for the parade

Seems that this old lady has got the best seat

After walking around whilst waiting for the parade, we took fried mee which cost us...10 Fr!

Getting ready for the parade

Jingyi, this photo is for you :)

Looks like the hat is too big for this little boy :)

What fat camels...& they don't smell that nice too...

The young gentleman here teaching his lady how to do a 'pan kiss' :)

Don't they look smart? And they are all girls :)

Lovely ladies walking on the street

It lasted for an hour or so and it was rather entertaining, seeing them in their traditional costumes. They were also busy throwing sweets at the audience and also avoiding the poos poos of the horses and camels that lined the streets :)

So the next day would be the actual parade with the burning of the winter effigy - snowman.
