Zurich Zoo

Monday was the Whit Holiday, so we decided to go to the Zoo since it's open 365 days a year and this year, it'd be 366 days.
Opening hours:
Mar to Oct: 9am to 6pm (Masoala rainforest 10am to 6pm)
Nov to Feb: 9am to 5pm (Masoala rainforest 10am to 5pm)
To go there, you can take tram no. 5 or 6 from Bahnhofstrasse (near to the main train station).

Even though the zoo is not as big as compared to ours, I personally find it an enjoyable experience there. We expected that we'd spend about 1/2 day there since we were told that it's not a very big zoo with not many animals to see but we ended up spending 3/4 day there. Somehow, the animals were more alive, not sure if it was partly due to the layout but we felt that we saw quite a variety of animals and I could stay and observe the animals for quite some time.

There was also a Masoala Rainforest which is similar to our weather in SG. Before we enter the place, there was a sign that says something like 'Warning: Temperature 30 deg celcius and humidity 80%'. It feels like home as we enter - the smell, the air, the heat, the humidity and the sound. Reminds us of Mac Ritchie and Botanical Gardens. Uncle Tan told his colleagues that if they want to experience how SG is like, they can visit this place and his boss quipped that he'd have to go there a couple of times to get adjusted before he visits SG :)

What I like most and what I find it missing was the interactivity with the animals. Thou there may not have any animal shows here like those entertaining ones you find in the SG zoo, I find that I have more up, close and personal experiences with the animals there, especially the goats, the gorillas and even the iguana. They also have the children's playground, which is also the place for picnics as it's big enough and next to a meadow field with some goats around. You can find slides in any place as long as there's an elevation. One of them was super higher and super steep and super fast. I wanted to try thou but too many kids are there with their parents, kinda embarrassing for me to go up, slide down and scream ;p cos it looks as if one can fly off the slide if one isn't careful enough. I doubt our zoo would wana have something like that cos any accidents, complaints would be seen in the papers. SG parents seem to be too overly protective. Either that, SG kids are simply too fragile and precious.

Haha, seems that I'm saying a lot of negative stuff on SG, well I guess sometimes constructive comparisons are good and we can change for the better. Otherwise we could be too 'yaya papaya' (too proud) over our 'world class' status.
