Cheese Fondue

On Sunday night, we went out for dinner together with our neighbour living opposite our apt. They are here for 6 mths too but came earlier than us and would be going back sometime in mid Sept.

They recommended to have cheese fondue at a hotel restaurant which was recommended by his colleague. However, it was fully booked so we went to another restaurant located at Stauffacher, a street which is 2 tram stops away from our apt. It was raining in the evening and kinda cold, but this means that it's a good time for the hot cheese fondue :)

Initially I was worried if I could take the fondue given that I'm not too used to the cheese here and prior to that, his friend, Ernest, who was staying in the apt above us mentioned that it can be a little strong because of the spices & liquor. But hey, it turned out good :)

There are 5 types of cheese in this 'concoction'. It has similar texture as the mozzarella cheese which is a little gluey and when it gets hardened, you can still feel the chewy texture. It tasted slightly salty but manageable and has a unique light taste. One phrase to describe it - sinfully yummilicious ;d

We ordered 2 portions of cheese fondue which comes with the bread and potatoes, and also ordered ham and sausages. It was quite filling as we couldn't finish all the food. All for about close to to CHF 100 for 4 pax, including 2 cans of beer and a glass of coke. One of the tips I read in Lonely Planet - avoid cold drinks when you're having cheese fondue as it might make the cheese a little more difficult to digest. So if you're in for a feast of cheese fondue, you know what to avoid :)

Say 'cheese' :)

Let's 'dip in' :)

When we finished the cheese in the pot, the lady offered to help us scrape out the hardened cheese so that we could eat it. It's like eating cheese crackers...but somehow it also reminded me of the roast pig's skin hehe ;p

After dinner, we went back to do 'house visitations'. We visited each other's apt and we were just wondering why the layout for each unit is so different. Even the utensils aren't standardized. For example, we have an over-sized rice cooker while theirs is a small one but comes without a cable. So they use the rice cooker pot and cook it on the cooker instead. Somehow, we've learnt to make do with what we have here :) Amongst the 3 apts we've visited, it seems that we have the most storage space and the biggest living room, thou the view isn't as nice.

Seems that Uncle Tan has managed to find a kaki to go jogging with him already. But well, I told him not to be too excited about it cos every time he thinks of going for a jog, the weather somehow will rain or becomes very windy ;p Just like when I wana go swimming, the weather will turn dark and cloudy. Looks are we're destined not to be able to exercise hehe ;p
