Freitag Shop & Walk along Limmat and Sihl River

It was a long weekend as Monday is a public holiday here, called Whit Monday. Not very sure the significance of it as his colleagues aren't too sure as well. If you are keen, you can refer to Wikipedia for more info.

As Uncle Tan's office system is down for some system upgrading, so he is off in the afternoon :) So we went down to the Freitag HQ.

On our way, we passed by the main railway station. Look at the massive rails...wonder how much time and labour is spent on building the railway.

Here it is, the Freitage shop in Zurich.

The shop is made up of ship cargo containers, @ the same place where the first bag was born.

The Freitag Story

Freitag bags are made from recycled materials - tarpulins, which are tough and waterproof as well as bicycle inner tubes, car seat belts and new used airbags. It was in 1993 where 2 bike-riding designers living next to a truck route in Zurich, thought of the idea - that it would be nice to have a custom messenger bag made from those 100'000-mile truck tarpaulins as they looked out of the kitchen window one day.

So they made the first bags for themselves followed by their friends. Later, shops, followed by museums came asking and the rest is history.

Today Freitag products are still designed, cut by hand and packaged in Zurich, next to the same truck route. They are still unique and made from the original, used truck tarps and the other recycled materials. You could take a look at their webpage and you could even design your own Freitag bag too. Quite cool. Freitag

Btw, it doesn't come cheap thou it's made of recycled stuff. This bag below cost CHF 180. So far in SG, heard that only one shop has the rights to sell it. Not sure the name of the shop thou. Anyone keen to get this bag?

On our way walking along Limmat River, we chanced upon this long stretch of graffiti. Over here in Zurich, you'll see them anywhere, at very odd and weird places like the pillars supporting a bridge across the river. You'll wonder how on earth they managed to do it. And some of them are pretty nice too.
Over here, it's called art; in SG, it's vandalism.

We chanced upon a unique shop selling gothic looking stuff. So we took the chance to take a pic with the few models outside the shop

At the banks of Limmat and Sihl River.
