Oerlikon Flower and Vegetable Market

Uncle Tan did a search for fresh market in Zurich and found the Oerlikon Flower and Vegetable Market. It was not the wet market I expected and I was a little disappointed not to find any 'chinese veggy'. The closest was the 'wangbok' where it can also be found in the local supermart. But it's a good walk looking at the fresh produce, especially the herbs and the flowers.

It's quite a large marketplace and has a wide variety of fresh local produce. It opens on every Wed, 6am to 11am and Sat, 6am to noon. The freshly caught fish, veggy, fruits, mushrooms, herbs and spices are directly from the producers, not to mention the cheeses and pasta as well. Price wise, I still think that the supermarts are cheaper for most of stuff since the marts enjoy economies of scale.

Lots of pretty flowers

They have a large selection of strawberries, pickled food like olives, garlic etc.

cheese...you can smell them from afar.

They have plenty of plotted plants and herbs. & I'm busy smelling away ;) Bought the mint plant as it's good for making mint tea and aids in digestion :)

I'd buy rosemary in the next round since it's good for marinating meat. Hmm...I wonder how to bring them back to SG...

One of the commonly seen veg here where you can find them in salads. Taste a little like our turnip or 'mang guang'.

They also have stalls selling poultry and seafood. This shop here sells rabbit meat as well...

And this shop sells freshly baked bread. Apparently the plaited Swiss white bread called 'Zopf' is the specialty here. Shall try that the next time when we visit this market again.

Saw the rose on his hat? :)

It's grapes! Imagine you can grow them in your own garden here.

Ok, the 2 crazy fellas doing their crazy things again as they couldn't resist the pretty flowers along the roadside. What the heck, we are tourists anyway :)

We decided to check out Nordsee, a take-away restaurant which offers seafood. Kinda tired of eating meat and veg everyday. Uncle Tan ordered a fish with some spicy looking sauce and mixed veg. Wana make a guess how much it cost? Fr 21 for a take away lunch. An expensive lunch indeed ;p I took the baguette with the fish fillet which tasted good and it cost only Fr 5.20.
His fish tasted ok but I realised the veggy here somewhat taste similar, now matter what veg you choose, they somehow had the same taste with a strong presence of olive oil. And their veg is usually soft.

After lunch, we decided to head to somewhere where there's water. So off to Bellevue we go.
Heard that it's also the area where the rich stays as it's near the lake. It's quite an exclusive place as we walked. It's quieter as compared to the park we went last week. I suppose this place would be filled with people swimming when summer is here.

Saw this cute family of ducks by the lake which had attracted a crowd of people taking photos.

Can't help but to capture this scene of the old man with his obedient dog that stood by him.

Some kind of games for the seniors. A little like shot put and they are supposed to aim and hit at or close to the little orange ball.

We saw this young artist trying to stack up stones by the lake. Quite interesting formations :) Reminds me of those ound in Korea where you stack up the stones to make a wish.

Quite a number of passers-by took pics as well and gave some form of donations too.

A family portrait :) Dad and son looks a little sad thou...

We spotted a grand-looking house by the lake which looks like a mini castle. Wonder who lives there.

Flea market ahhh.....but by the time we reach there which is about 4pm, they are already packing up. Shall try my luck again on Sat since I heard it's on every Sat here at Bellevue.
